West Point Middle School students celebrate creativity, craft and collaboration
Students enrolled in band at West Point Middle School recently took part in the fifth annual Band Olympics, a four-week competition that highlighted musical skill mastery and teamwork.
Teams of mixed instrumentation and varying readiness levels designed their own flags and chose creative names such as Game of Tones, Sharp Shooters and Fermata Frenzy.
Individual events tested fundamentals including Rhythmic Lengths at the Luge, Speed Skating Through Scales, Slalom Sight-reading and Nordic Note Knowledge. Team events featured “Captured! — Escaping the Band Room” and “Created! — Performing an Original Team Composition.”
Olympians earned gold, silver and bronze medals in each event, with overall standings tracked on a medals leaderboard.
The program supported DoWEA priorities by building classical learning through rigorous music fundamentals while strengthening civic responsibility and patriotic spirit through collaborative excellence.
