West Point Middle School honored the nation's veterans with its 19th annual Veterans Day Assembly on Nov. 13, featuring a student-led program that highlighted the history of the holiday and the unity of Americans during World War II.

The assembly, titled "United We Stand," was designed, produced and performed entirely by the school's fine arts department. Local veterans joined students, staff and families for the event, which included performances by the advanced band, chorus and intermediate band.

Musical selections such as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" were paired with projected backdrops and historical narratives. Videos created by the video production team interspersed the live performances, while one student delivered a pre-recorded portrayal of entertainer Bob Hope, complete with period jokes during set changes.

Following the program, guests toured an art gallery showcasing student-created agamographs, drawings and clay poppies depicting themes of service throughout U.S. history. The event concluded with a reception sponsored by two local organizations.

"The team truly thought of everything," said one attending veteran. "They believe in presenting the best product."

A parent added: "My child really took a chance to perform today. I am happy about the program and proud of the work my child did."

The well-coordinated presentation represented all grade levels and left attendees — including visitors, students, staff and faculty — moved by its depth and quality.
